Methyl chloroacetate is known to induce DNA damage to rat sperm, and is also thought to be toxic to humans upon exposure. Methyl chloroacetate is also used as a reagent to synthesize Valdecoxib (V090000), a selective cyclooxygenase 2(COX-2) specific inhibitor that is used to treat postoperative pain;Also, it is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
