Diethylselenium dibromide is used as a reagent to carry out ring-opening reactions of cyclic ethers. Diethylselenium dibromide is also used to convert alcohols (e.g.: 1-Pentanol [P227290]) into their corresponding alkyl bromides (e.g.: 5-Bromopentanol [B686140]).
