3-Amino-2-methoxycarbonylthiophene is a useful synthetic intermediate. It can be used to synthesize (amino)thienopyridine derivatives as possible inhibitors of VEGFR-2 kinase and EGFR kinase. It can also be used to prepare (carboxyheteroarylamino)oxalic acids as inhibitors of protein-tyrosine phosphatase 1B.
