(2R,3R,4R,5S)-1-Butyl-2-((((2R,3R,4S,5S,6S)-3,4,5-triacetoxy-6-(methoxycarbonyl)tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)oxy)methyl)piperidine-3,4,5-triyl tribenzoate is an intermediate in the synthesis of Miglustat O-β-D-Glucuronide (M344220), which is a glucuronide derivative of N-Butyldeoxynojirimycin (B691000); an inhibitor of a-glucosidase 1 as well as HIV cytopathicity. N-Butyldeoxynojirimycin has recently been used to retard lipid storage in the central nervous system of an animal model of Tay-Sachs disease.
