Diethyl oxalate is a chemical used to pre-treat wood chips in order to refine and prepare them for further processing (such as obtaining wood pulp). Diethyl oxalate is also used as a starting material to synthesize Ethylene glycol (E890140) by means of catalytic hydrogenation.
