Fluoranthene is a commonly occurring environmental pollutant and can be classified as either a tumour initiator or a cocarcinogen in humans. Fluoranthene is widely used as an intermediate to synthesize fluorescent dyes. This compound is a contaminant of emerging concern (CECs).
