Antitumor alkaloid. Binds irreversible to the DNVIP(LA)topoisomerase I complex, inhibiting the reassociation of DNA after cleavage by topoisomerase I and traps the enzyme in a covalent linkage with DNA. A cytotoxic antitumor agent.
